On Saturday, October 26th, we celebrated our farewell party in Texas, a chance to thank our host families and our American teachers, Mr. Schade and Mr. Damrau. After a busy week at school, the morning was relaxed—some students had cereal, others enjoyed bacon and eggs, and some even had pancakes or waffles with their host families.
At 4:30 p.m., we met at a ranch in the countryside, a unique spot reached by an old gravel road with plenty of bumps. Once we arrived, we set up for the party, arranging chairs, benches around a bonfire, and a buffet area. By 5 p.m., everyone had arrived, and we began with performances that brought back memories from our time here. We recreated moments from our hiking trip in Guadalupe Mountains National Park and shared funny comparisons between the American and German school systems.
After a group dance to Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold’em,” the buffet opened, serving burgers, fried fish, coleslaw, and even German potato salad. Later, we played football, and as the sun began to set, we hiked up a small hill for a group photo. Watching the sunset together made for a perfect ending before we each returned home to spend our final evening with our host families.
