Our first day at Guyer High School kicked off with a warm and welcoming breakfast in the library. As everyone had arrived and settled in, we enjoyed a delicious spread of bagels with schmear, yogurt, muesli, and fresh fruit, while listening to speeches from Dr. Perry, the principal, along with the German and American staff who organized the exchange. During the event, we presented Dr. Perry a special gift from Berlin—a “Buddy Bear” symbolizing tolerance and friendship among nations.
After breakfast, we headed to the counselor’s office to pick up our student IDs. Since we hadn’t received our class schedules yet, we spent the day shadowing our exchange partners, getting a firsthand look at subjects like World History, English, Drawing, and, of course, German. In Mr. Shade’s German class, we exchange students introduced ourselves in German, while the American students translated, making for a fun and engaging experience.
The school day ended at 4:10 pm. It was a long but exciting day—a great start to our adventure!
